Gateshead Whisky News 03.06.2022
You may have noticed a lack of whisky news in your life last week, Lounge Types! That would be due to Connas being on a jolly to Campbeltown and Islay, the lucky bugger!
But here he is with a bumper round up to get you all caught up!
Irish Distillers have launched the fifth bottling in theirRedbreast Dream Cask series – a 30-year-old. WOW!
Douglas Laing have revealed The Epicurean’s latest Limited-Edition, The Epicurean ‘Glasgow Edition’. G’wan yer’sel! (I think that’s the appropriate colloquialism)
Glengoyne have created a whisky box that blocks phone signals to allow drinkers to ‘switch off’. I like this, but read the Gateshead whisky new first!
Rare Auction Stuff!
On Tuesday, bidding opened on a Whisky cask sale - the first of its kind - as part of the Platinum Jubilee Season at Sotheby’s. Two of the rarest and most valuable casks of whisky in existence will be sold on 14th June from the historic stocks of two ‘ghost’ distilleries Brora & Port Ellen. (Any one lend me a few quid!?)
GlenAllachie have released the second batch of its oldest core expression, a 30-year-old. And there’s only 2000 of them!
Lomond for the Open!
Loch Lomond have released two single malts to mark The Open golf competition’s 150th anniversary this year.
Johnny in Sherry!
Johnnie Walker have unveiled a new limited-edition, Johnnie Walker Black Label Sherry Finish. Which was originally released in Taiwan and is now available in more than 35 countries.
Leon to Tamnavulin!
Tamnavulin have appointed experienced whisky maker Leon Webb as their new Distillery Manager. Best of luck, Sir!
Big Peat for the Ukraine!
Douglas Laing have produced just ONE bottle of a very special Big Peat to support our friends in Ukraine. This one of one Big Peat bottle contains a unique marriage of Islay Single Malts - 99% of the content being from the legendary Port Ellen Distillery! Nice!
Seeing people I’ve not seen for 3 years is awesome! If you don’t understand and experience the community centred around whisky. You’re missing out.
See you next week!
