I can’t help but feel that GlenAllachie are building up a head of steam now.
Just over a year ago their core-range debuted, followed, a couple of months back, by the Wood Finish Series. And as we speak they have a Limited Edition 10 year-old and 5 Single Cask offerings hitting the shelves!
In an industry famed for “things taking a long time for to happen”, I think it’s fair to say that these Speysiders have hit the ground running to say the least!
Add to that, between the Wood Finish Series and the Limited Edition 10-Year-Old they introduced an additional 15-Year-Old to their core range, and I’ve not even had a chance to review it yet. We can comfortably conclude that they’re at least going faster than a certain Gateshead-Centric whisky nerd!
So, here are my notes on the new 15 year old folks!
The GlenAllachie 15yo ‘Signature’
Age: 15 | ABV 46% | RRP £59.95
Maturation: Ex-Bourbon, then a sherry finishing period (Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez)
Toffee and Peanuts, slight burnt caramel. Some bitter chocolate and maybe a couple of sultanas for good measure.
Medium feel with continued notes of dry fruit and nuttiness. Some bitter “charred bits of the side of a fruit cake”, with cinnamon, nutmeg and a blast of ground ginger to boot.
Medium-to-long with those spices clinging initially, a slightly sweet but floral haze of rose water and heather. And a damp – almost earthy fog lingers.
Well, the quality is not dropping Loungers! I may have mentioned in some previous reviews that I’m starting to get a bit wary of “Cask Finishing for Cask Finishings Sake”. Somehow, this lot seem to know where my red lines are and are keeping to them!
Errr, thanks for that!
As ever Lounge Types, DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! Go and try some!
See you soon!
