An Asian Whisky Tasting – Sheffield

You may already know and love Japanese whisky, but there is so much more out there now…

As we enter a dew decade, whisky and whisky production is in rude health. More and more distilleries are being built. Yes, in Scotland and Ireland, but also in areas of the world you wouldn’t normally associate with whisky.

In Asia, whisky is even more popular than here in the UK. Scottish distillers have, in the past and continually, prioritised this part of the world when it comes to building exports.

However, due to the pioneering work of Japanese distillers, who are close to having 100 years of whisky-specific distilling experience, individuals and businesses in other countries have taken note and made the decision to go it alone.

However, it is not as straight-forward as that! Differing climates, supply chains and business models mean that each distiller and country has its own challenges and foibles.

Speciality Brands specialise in importing great whisky. They also, currently, are the gatekeepers for three of the finest Asian whisky brands available in the UK and farther afield.

So this tasting – co-hosted by Speciality – will be focussing on Amrut from Bangalore, India, Kavalan from Taiwan and Nikka from Japan. You will be taken through the story of each distiller whilst tasting 2 fantastic whiskies from each. Plus a bonus, mystery dram at the end…

 

This tasting features 7 whiskies and, as usual, you won’t be tasting these whiskies alone. You’ll be in the company of fellow whisky folk and, of course, one of our whisky experts, who will be on hand to entertain and enlighten you in the ways of the dram.
