Newcastle Whisky Festival 2018

The Newcastle Whisky Festival 2018 is on its way…

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that this is a must-do for any whisky fan, fanatic or even whisky newcomer.

Not only will you have the chance to taste the best of homegrown whiskies from all over Scotland, but we will also have an outstanding selection of whiskies from all over the world for your delectation.

Throw in a smattering of tremendous workshops, experiences and ‘Under the Counter’ drams and the grand surroundings of Newcastle’s Civic Centre and you have a fantastic day out on the cards.

As always you also have a choice of sessions in order to ease the crowds slightly and make your life more comfortable!

  • Entry to one session, 2pm-4pm

  • ALL WHISKIES SAMPLED IN MAIN HALL (not including ‘under the counter’ drams)

How the festival works

Simply approach any of the exhibitors stands, ask politely for a dram and you shall receive a tasty glass of whisky (it really is that simple) Every exhibitor should know their whiskies inside out and it’s well worth taking advantage of this knowledge. They’ll be able to answer all and any whisky related questions you may have and will happily explain why their whisky is so damn tasty.

Under the counter drams

The vast majority of whiskies on display are available to taste within your ticket price.

However, ‘Under the Counter’ Token drams simply allow you access to some of the rare and more exclusive whiskies in the festival. We have three tiers of tokens available which can be purchased on the day;

White Tokens £3 each.

Orange Tokens £5 each

Black Tokens £10 each.

The Festival Shop

As in previous years, we will have a shop available to take care of all your purchasing needs and selling every whisky that you will find in the show.

Whisky Masterclasses

What’s it all about?

Festival Masterclasses are the perfect chance to get up close and personal with some of the ‘whisky worlds’ finest speakers. Enjoy a relaxed and intimate tasting, away from the hustle and bustle of the main festival. Each Masterclass will be different, depending on who’s running it and what the focus of the tasting is. Here you’ll get to taste some amazing drams and actually converse with the people who know them best!

Here are the Masterclasses for Newcastle 2018

Mackmyra – The Origins of Swedish Whisky with Magnus Dandanell

Tasting Times – First Session 1 pm, Second Session – 7 pm

Price – £10

Founded in 1999, Mackmyra are now firmly established in the world of whisky and are proud to be somewhat different than a lot of their compatriots. For example, gravity plays a big part in their new distillery, which is seven stories high. They use Swedish Oak, planted 160 years ago for the Swedish Navy to make warships, for their barrels. Want to know more? Distillery founder Magnus is coming over from Sweden especially to present this exciting tasting to you!

TWL 10th Birthday Masterclass with Eddie “The Whisky Evangelist” Ludlow

Tasting Times – Tasting Times – First Session 2 pm, Second Session – 8 pm (you must hold a valid entry ticket to the session the Masterclass falls within)

Price – £10

This is The Whisky Lounge’s Tenth Birthday and we’re kicking the year’s festivities off with a bang here in Newcastle. Eddie Ludlow, founder of The Whisky Lounge, Keeper of the Quaich, Master of the Universe and Lord of Greyskull. Known far and wide for being ‘The Whisky Evangelist’, also for his fine collection of Star Wars t-shirts and curmudgeonly behaviour, he will be taking you, grudgingly, through some of the finest drams available. This is a one of a kind tasting and is strictly first come first served.

Exhibitors…

…will keep appearing here at regular intervals, please keep checking back to see what distilleries are in store for you!
