St. Patrick’s Whiskey Shenanigans

Not that long ago, the choice of Irish whiskey available to the enthusiast was limited, to say the least. Therefore, for many years, those that call themselves whisky-lovers would defer to Scottish whiskies or even those from elsewhere from around the globe.

However, the Irish whiskey industry is undergoing a massive renaissance. Indeed it has brought itself back from the brink and is now the fastest growing spirit globally.

New distilleries are popping up all over the country like wildfire, whilst the more established distillers have finally recognised the need for more exciting and tasty whiskies. This is driven by the fact that the way people are experiencing Irish whiskey is changing. We all want to sample different varieties and learn about their unique and intriguing history.

At the root of all of this is the rejuvenation of a type of whiskey which is totally unique to Ireland and carries a rich and turbulent history – single pot still Irish whiskey! A classic style, typified by whiskies from the Old Midleton distillery, it now competes with more ‘modern’ distilleries – and their techniques and styles – cropping up all over the green isle.

The Tasting

So to celebrate the revival we present to you our St. Patrick’s Whiskey Shenanigans. A celebration of all things Irish. This tasting features 6 whiskies, carefully chosen by us here at TWL HQ. As usual, you won’t be tasting these whiskies alone, you’ll be in the company of fellow whisky folk and of course one of our whisky experts, who will be on hand to entertain and enlighten you in the ways of the dram.

To accompany, and hopefully soak up, the lovely Irish Whiskey you’ll be sampling. You will be treated to a dose of hearty Irish Stew. Coming about midway through the tasting it will be perfect to break things up, reset your taste buds and keep you in fine fighting form for the rest of the whiskey to come!
