Gateshead Whisky News

Friday is here Loungers! And we’re just off the back of an awesome Yorkshire Whisky Festival – always good to see our local festival being so well attended and received. Now our eyes are firmly fixed on Manchester, and we can’t wait!

In the meantime, here’s Connas with your weekly dose of Whisky News!

  • Big Smoke. In the, errrr, Big Smoke?

As part of London Cocktail Week, Laphroaig turned up at The Cocktail Village with a pop-up Smokehouse bar…

  • Lock, Stock and 2 Glenfarclas’, please!

Glenfarclas will feature in the new Guy Richie Film “The Gentlemen”. I wonder if Vinnie Jones will smash a bottle in a car door….

  • Strike Settlement…

Trade union Unite have accepted Diageo’s revised pay offer, bringing an end to a months-long industrial dispute in Scotland. Hopefully this is the end of the issue…

  • 50-Year-Old anyone?

Whyte & Mackay are giving consumers the chance to win a bottle of its new 50-year-old blended whisky, which has been priced at £5,000. Nice….

  • Second Concept…

Macallan have unveiled the second whisky in their Concept Series – The Macallan Concept Number 2 (obviously!), which was inspired by music. I used to have a Russian friend who was a sound engineer…

And a Czech one-too, Czech one-too…

(You’re welcome…) (ughhhh – Ed)

  • Auchentoshan shake up duty free…

Auchentoshan are shaking up their ‘travel retail’ offerings, replacing the Springwood and Heartwood with American Oak Reserve and Dark Oak respectively. Fair play, duty-free can be confusing sometimes…

  • Three Kininvie!

William Grant & Sons have launched three “experimental” Kininvies, a single malt, single grain and blended Scotch. Interesting…

  • Wee Salute x 2!

There are 2 new Royal Salute bottlings with us folks, and Sandy Hyslop is very excited about them! So he should be!

  • Whisky Exchange x 3!

The Whisky Exchange are opening a 3rd London store in London Bridge! (Well not IN London Bridge, but IN London Bridge – you know what I mean….)

  • More Dalmore!

It looks like there will be 3 additions to Dalmores Travel Retail range with us soon… Interesting…

  • Rachel’s a Keeper…

Rachel Barrie, Master Blender for The GlenDronach, BenRiach and Glenglassaugh has been inducted into the Keepers of the Quaich. Few deserve it more in my opinion…

  • First For Stephanie…

Dewar’s Stephanie MacLeod has become the first woman to be crowned  ‘Master Blender of the Year’ at the International Whisky Competition. Awesome work…

  • Wolfburn for heroes!

The good folks from Wolfburn have released a bottle specifically to raise funds for Help For Hero’s. Go and buy some!

  • And Finally…

The Glenlivet seemed to cause a bit of a stir (no pun intended), with their “cocktails in a capsule” for London Cocktail Week. Don’t see what all the fuss is about myself….

Anyhow!

That’s it for now people! Get yourselves back here this time next week for more whisky news!
