Happy Friday, Loungers – It’s Whisky News Time Again!

We’re back from a HUGE London Whisky Weekender last weekend – Thanks To All Involved! – and returning to normality (well, normal for us anyway). Seemingly it’s all been going on while our team have been away, but thankfully our very own Gateshead-centric bringer of news, Connas, is relentless in his quest to keep you in the loop with all things whisky. Take it away fella…

  • Sold, Out Of Eden!

As we reported previously, bottle number 001 of Eden Mill’s first ever single malt was put up for auction recently. The resulting bidding topped out at a staggering £7100! Don’t worry, if you missed out they still have 100 left for which they are charging a mere £500. Information on how to register an interest are included here…

  • Step Into The Highland Light!

As the inevitable follow up to last year’s The Dark, Highland Park have announced the release of (you guessed it!) The Light. Intended to reflect Orkney’s Spring and Summer months, the 17 year old is from bourbon casks and has an RRP of £190. And I missed out on trying some last weekend, grrrrrr…

  • Walker is Coming…?

I’m one of the few people who haven’t seen a single episode of Game Of Thrones [Unfortunate but rectifiable, Connas – Ed.]. Or Friends for that matter. [You are now my hero – Ed.]. So I’m not qualified to comment on how well Diageo have teased this Game of Thrones link up with the Johnnie Walker range… Apparently, if I say “That’s what I do. I drink, and pay no attention to popular culture” at this point, it will be funny. Or something.

  • Full Time Charlotte!

Bruichladdich’s heavily-peated Port Charlotte range is to get a permanent release for the first time this month. Four whiskies will make up the range, and as ever they’re concentrating on differing barley strains to promote the provenance of the whisky. AND, it comes in a shiny, new style bottle!

  • UK’s First Single Cask Speyburn…

The mighty Speyburn distillery, famous for being revered by enthusiasts as the world’s greatest ever distillery, have released their first ever Single Cask expression in the UK. The 14 year old is drawn from a bourbon cask and retails at £90 per 70cl bottle. This won’t last long…

  • SMWS In The (Islay) House!

Our buddies from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society have announced their plans for this year’s Islay Festival. They have a plethora of events going on at the beautiful Islay house, not far from where we are staying, as it happens (hint hint…).

  • Walking With You…?

Johnnie Walker have set up a personalised whisky buying service using “Taste-profiling Technology”. Sounds like someones been reading 1984…

  • Smellfiddich!

In an attempt to promote diversity of flavour in whisky, Glenfiddich have revealed an Aroma Lab in Harrods new Fine Wine and Spirits Room. The smell-led experience is designed to guide customers towards their ideal whisky. It’ll be handy if Big Brother has a very distinctive smell too…?

  • New Dog, Old Tricks!

Douglas Laing are continuing their 70th anniversary celebrations with a limited edition 10 year old Scallywag! The Blended Speyside Malt is bottled at 46% with an RRP of £49.99.

  • Wedding Salute!

Royal Salute has launched a one-off whisky to mark this weekend’s Royal Marriage. As if we needed another reason for a party…

  • SWA Flying High With New Communicator!

The Scotch Whisky Association has appointed a new Director of Strategy and Communications. Gerry McFall has joined from Leonardo Helicopters no less…

  • And Finally…

Tabasco-finished whisky: George Dickel’s getting saucy…

Thanks for popping in again folks – I’ll be back next week with much more whisky news!

Cheers,

Connas
