Tough times are upon us loungers. And as you would no-doubt expect, this week’s news is dominated by the subject of Covoid 19 and how the industry is responding.

I feel it’s pertinent to underline the fact that, here at The Whisky Lounge we’ve postponed all our events for the next 12 weeks. WE ARE 100% COMITTED TO DELIVERING THESE EVENTS AT A LATER DATE.

Clearly, in these unprecedented times, information is coming thick and fast which makes it very difficult to make any solid plans. Be assured that we are very much as frustrated with this uncertainty as you are, and we appreciate both your custom and your patience. We WILL work through this and we WILL work hard to keep you informed of any updates as soon as physically possible.

Now, on with the news!

  • Coviod Closures….

Although production has not yet been impacted, most distilleries who welcome the public have suspended access to their facilities until further notice. The good folks at The Spirits Business have put a list of closures.

We’ve also received news that The Spirit of Speyside Festival, The Campbeltown Malts Festival and The Islay Festival of Malt and Music have cancelled their programmes for this year.

  • Positive Gestures….

Since – at this point – there has been little offered by way of support for the industry from the government. Diageo have pledged a £1 million support package for independent venues.

Also, Pernod Ricard are donating some of its alcohol for use as sanitiser.

While it could be argued that neither of these measures should be needed, hats off to both for stepping up.

  • Positions Available!

Since they announced that our good buddy Mickey Heads is retiring soon, Ardbeg are now looking for a replacement, think you can handle it!?

Also, Diageo have 200 positions available at the new Johnnie Walker Experience in Edinburgh, this looks very cool!

  • And Finally…

It’s been an understandably short update this week folks.

In closing, I’d just like to say. We are living through very stressful times, please, be kind.

And as ever,
